A puzzling cause of persistent Pseudomonas aeruginosa septicaemia in a patient on maintenance haemodialysis.

چکیده
Vascular access is the life-line of chronic haemodialysis patients. Its complications play a major role in morbidity and mortality [1]. Vascular access infection remains the leading cause for access failure when cuffed silicone catheters are used for long-term access and is the second most common cause of graft failure when polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) grafts are used [2]. Most reports deal with dual-lumen tunneled cuffed catheter related bacteraemia. Arteriovenous (A-V) graft infection with Pseudomonas septicaemia, as reported here, has been rarely discussed.

Use of bacteriophages in the treatment of colistin-only-sensitive Pseudomonas aeruginosa septicaemia in a patient with acute kidney injury—a case report
Sepsis from Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteraemia may be fatal, especially when no appropriate therapy can be given. In June 2016, a 61-year-old man was hospitalised for Enterobacter cloacae peritonitis and severe abdominal sepsis with disseminated intravascular coagulation, secondary to a diaphragmatic hernia with bowel strangulation. The patient had a prolonged hospital course complicated by gan...

Introduction : Kefir is a probiotic mixture of bacteria and yeast originating from Qafqaz region. The Kefir grain contain s both Lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus,Lactococcus,Leuconostoc,Acetobacte and Streptococcus spp.) and yeast (Kluyveromyces, Torula, Candida and Saccharomyces spp.). Kefir is claimed to have therapeutic effect. This study looked at the antimicrobial activity of Kefir on...
متن کاملHigh Incidence of Multidrug Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolated from Infected Burn Wounds in a Tertiary Hospital
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a leading cause of healthcare associated infection especially in patients admitted to critical care units such as intensive care units (ICUs) and burn care centers (Moazami-Goudarzi et al., 2012) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a non-fermentative gram negative bacterium, is widely distributed in nature, including hospital environment. P. aeruginosa is a ubiquitous micro-organi...
متن کاملOuter Membrane Protein D Gene in Clinical Isolates of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and its Role in Antibiotic Resistance
Background & Objectives: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common cause of nosocomial infection. OprD protein is a specific protein regulating the uptake of carbapenem antibiotic. Loss of OprD is the main mechanism of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa resistance to carbapenem. In this study, the presence of OprD gene is investigated in isolated Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in burn patients of Ghotboddin hospital in S...
متن کاملAntibiotic Susceptibility of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Cystic Fibrosis Patients
Abstract Background and Objective: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive genetic disease and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common bacteria colonized in CF patients. Growing resistance of this bacterium to antibiotics now a day is a challenge of controlling infection in CF patient. In this study colonization of CF patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and antibiotic suscep...
